Knowing God’s Voice

Posted by: Janet on: August 11, 2008

Notes from Spiritual Gifts Seminar at CBN on June 24th, 2008 – Jane Hamon speaking.

God’s voice is purposeful

When God speaks He has a purpose in mind. We need God to speak into our lives. Where there is no vision [no redemptive revelation of God], the people perish; Proverbs 29:18a AMP”

People of vision see the invisible, hear the inaudible, believe the incredible, think the unthinkable, and then do the impossible!

God’s voice is personal

It may be needed confirmation, an answer to a question, encouragement, direction, a word of knowledge, etc.

God’s voice is positive

Even if the word brings correction or conviction, it will still be full of God’s love, mercy, and hope for the future. God’s word is life-giving.

God’s voice is practical

  • Direction
  • Confirmation
  • Warning
  • Insight

God’s voice is progressive and partial

1 Corinthians 13:9
For we know in part and we prophesy in part (NIV)

God gave Abraham simple directives, but did not reveal the details. The details unfolded as time went on. God was looking for obedience.

Things to prayerfully consider:

  • Word – does it agree with the written Word of God?
  • Will - Is it God’s will?
  • Way – What is God’s timing, who are the people to be involved, and what resources are involved?

An example: You hear a word about going to China. Does it mean a mission trip or moving there? Does it mean now or in the future? Don’t act rashly.

God’s voice has a protocol

  • Do not use “thus sayeth the Lord” to manipulate others
  • When you are just beginning to hear from God, write down the “word” and submit it to a mature believer for feedback and counsel

God’s voice is powerful

  • It shatters the enemy Isaiah 30
  • It brings healing
  • It brings forgiveness
  • It brings deliverance

So, we should stir up the gifts that were imparted to us. 2 Timothy 1:6-7

The gift of prophecy can manifest differently in each of us. Some of the ways are:

  • Seeing a picture or “movie” in our mind
  • Sense something
  • Hear words audibly or inaudibly
  • Feeling
  • Smell a fragrance

I agree~~!!!Enjoyed it, and benefited from it, thanks^^

I never knew …

When we pray, we assume we are seeking God’s approval and blessing of our desires… We come to God with our needs like we are a bug on His windshield, (Disgusting and gross!). When through Jesus all that is past and our Heavenly Father eagerly awaits us to hop on His lap and pour our hearts our before Him!

What an astonishment, what a sudden jerk in our direction without warning, like a lightning bolt, to experience the knowledge and awareness what you have been praying for was His desire all along and what was actually HIS desire for you!

We think are desires are so unique! Ha! What a joke! God placed the desire to be healed within us so we would seek after Him. He placed the heartache within us so we would pursue Him! These “Distractions” are merely things to bring us to our Heavenly Father and bind us in intimate fellowship with Him!

In the natural hope unfulfilled is a hellish end in itself, but in God our hopes are fulfilled in Christ, not in some vending machine fashion where we plunk in a few prayers and out pops our answer to prayer, but when we lay our lives before the Lord in humility and subjection to Him we are astonished and awed that our desires are His desires!

We see ourselves as constantly seeking help for ourselves, but God sees us as pleading for His will in our lives to be completed. It is our own doubts that cause us to believe our prayers are merely requests for the permissive will of God. Our life struggles are intended to discipline our lives to dependance on Christ, not be excuses for failures suggesting Satan is stronger than God.

Whatever we desire, God has thought of it first, and chances are He wants it for us more than we do. Our sufferings are for the benefit of ourselves to grow in spiritual maturity, and for the sake of others as we intercede. Trials are not merely thorns in our sides, but syringes inoculating us against the attacks of the enemy, and boosters to increase immunity in the Body of Christ! The sufferings of the Spiritual body of Christ, his church, are manifestations of an empathic phenominon of “Sharing The Suffering Of Christ” as Paul knew all too well.

“Romans 8:17 Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory. “
